Comments : Klose was a German plant breeder. At least 33 named hostas can be attributed to him (he either raised or bred them) and possibly up to another 30 or so. Almost half of these are Tardianas. He visited Eric Smith at Hadspen House In the mid 1970s, where he purchased all of the un-named plants left over after Smith had named his famous Tardiana series. Klose acquired more plants from Reginald Kaye, the English fern breeder, about 10 years later and selected two Tardianas from amongst these to use himself for breeding.
