H. ‘Fortunei Hyacinthina’
Size : Large
Leaf : Ovate, blue-green (viridescent) withh a slight underside bloom and a very thin, faint white line on the edge of the leaf
Parentage : sport of H ‘Fortunei’
Originator : Long-standing Japanese variety,
Registered : 1987, although almost certainly introduced to Europe in mid-late C19th by von Siebold
Comments : Probably origniated in von Siebold’s garden in Nagasaki in early C19th and introduced to Europe some years later. Some experts speculate that it may actually have evolved in Europe subsequently from one of von Siebold’s imports.
A classic-looking Fortunei-type hosta. Very good growth rate. Very prone to sporting, it has produced numerous sports some of which, most noteably H. ‘Gold Standard’ have gone on to produce important sports of their own. Indeed, I have 2 or 3 of my own Hyacinthina sports which I’m currently growing and observing.
